Лекция: The English Wedding

On the day of the wedding the bride and groom go to church for the wedding service. There they are joined in matrimony by the clergyman, who slips a wedding-ring on the bride’s ring-finger.

When the ceremony is over, all go back to the house to the wedding-breakfast. The main feature of the wedding-breakfast is the highly decorated wedding-cake. Then the happy newly-weds leave the reception for their honeymoon or their new home.

According to an old English custom, they are pelted with handfuls of rice, which is supposed to bring them good luck.

Mы — в магазине. Тесс ждет продавщицу. Девушка не знает, какой размер ей нужен. Продавщица собирается принести сантиметр (measure tape). Другая девушка рядом с Tecс примеряет новое вечернее платье. Тесс не против того (tо mind), чтобы тоже купить такое платье. Она начинает волноваться, потому что спешит. Она боится опоздать на свадебную церемонию. Кроме того, ей необходимо выбрать своей подруге подарок. Через несколько минут Тесс cядет в такси, возвратится домой, переоденется в новое вечернее платье и прибудет в церковь.
