Cành rơi như thế nào là đẹp?
Trước hết cành đẹp là cành khi nhìn từ mọi góc độ đều khúc khuỷu. Không nên cho rằng cây chỉ ngắm từ 1 phía nên nhìn từ mặt tiền cành rơi cong quẹo là đủ. Bởi mắt người cảm nhận được hình ảnh 3 chiều. Những chỗ vòng ra đằng sau sẽ tạo cảm giác về chiều sâu của tác phẩm. Uốn thế nào thì chẳng có một nguyên tắc nào cả, tùy vào cảm hứng lúc bạn uốn thôi. Ở mức cơ bản, hãy tưởng tượng như bạn đang uốn thành hình cái lò xo. Thành thạo hơn có thể uốn những đường vòng cung thành đường gập thật gấp, một đường vòng uốn thành 2 đường vòng nhỏ v.v
Khoảng cách các tán lá phải ngắn dần về phía ngọn cây.
Về tán lá, nếu uốn theo kiểu cây bài thì làm sao cho giống như nước chảy qua một ghềnh đá là đẹp. Tán lá có những khoảng trống để khoe cành, cành thì gập xuống thật mạnh (gập hẳn về phía thân càng tốt) rồi bung ngang ra thật mạnh. Nếu uốn kiểu “phong cách tự nhiên hơn” thì tán lá không nhiều khoảng trống và từ chi cấp 2 trở lên đôi khi có những cành mọc thẳng lên trời chứ không nằm ngang hoàn toàn như kiểu cây bài.
Nên mô phỏng cành rơi như 1 thác nước chảy qua ghềnh đá.
Kiểu cành rơi tự nhiên (xin lỗi hình không phù hợp lắm về độ dốc, bạn coi tạm).
Kỹ thuật uốn cành rơi
Uốn cành không phải chỉ bẻ gập cành lại là được, mà đồng thời phải xoắn nhẹ nó nữa. Việc xoắn cành có 3 điều lợi:
- Cành khó gãy.
- Ta có thể đưa những cành mọc sai hướng về đúng vị trí (có ví dụ bên dưới)
- Nhìn cành xoắn tự nhiên hơn cành chỉ bẻ.
Ví dụ như hình dưới đây là 1 cành thẳng tuột, chi cành lại mọc sai vị trí: co đầu mọc lượn về phía trước làm mất chiều sâu của cành. 2 chi đầu tiên lại mọc về phía trước che hết cả cành rơi, các chi con thì thưa thớt v.v. Nhưng chỉ sau 1 giờ qua bàn tay vàng của nghệ nhân Lâm Ngọc Vinh thì nhìn đã khác hẳn: các chi mọc đúng chỗ, co đầu lượn ra sau có 1 chi, tiếp đến là chi đuổi, đến co 2 đưa về trước cũng có 1 chi đúng chỗ và cứ thế theo nhịp lắc lượn của cành rơi ta thấy cành rơi của cây này hầu như có đủ chi tại các chỗ cần thiết, tạo cho cành rơi rất tình và ấm tàn.
Về lý thuyết có lẽ chỉ cần nhớ 1 từ XOẮN là đủ. Kể lể rườm rà có lẽ càng thêm rối, mời bạn xem hình để hiểu thêm.
Cành rơi trước khi uốn
Nhân tiện giải thích thêm về chi đuổi (cành khoanh tròn): đó là chi mọc ra từ cành rơi nhưng không mọc ngang ra 2 bên mà ngọn lại “đuổi” về phía ngọn cành rơi. Tác dụng của cành này là lấp đầy khoảng trống tạo ra bởi các cành tẽ ngang 2 bên.
Những lưu ý quan trọng khi uốn cành rơi
Thời tiết rất quan trọng đối với việc uốn cành, nên chọn những ngày mát và tốt nhất là cả tuần sau đó đều mát. Nếu trời mưa, cây hút nước sẽ trương cứng các mô lên giống như ta bơm bóng bay vậy. Khi đó uốn cành dễ bị dập. Nếu trời nắng, lá thoát hơi nước nhiều dẫn tới héo lá và bỏ chi. Tại sao uốn cành thì lá sẽ bị thiếu nước vậy? Bạn hãy tưởng tượng cành cây như một ống dẫn nước. Nếu uốn cành (nhất là những co gập mạnh) thì đường dẫn nước sẽ bị tắc y như khi ta gập cái ống nước.
Có thể cắt nước 1, 2 ngày cho cây mất nước thì sẽ dẻo và dễ uốn hơn. Uốn xong lập tức tưới đẫm lại cho cây hồi. Việc này cũng cần chút xíu kinh nghiệm, nếu thấy lá có hiện tượng héo lập tức phải tưới nước lại cho cây hồi rồi mới tính.
Cần khá nhiều kinh nghiệm để biết được khi nào nên uốn cành. Mỗi chủng loại cây có thời điểm uốn khác nhau tùy vào độ cứng của cành. Tốt nhất là nên thường xuyên theo dõi chúng, dùng tay nắn thử nếu thấy cành dẻo dai là uốn được. Nếu uốn sớm quá và người uốn chưa quen tay thường sẽ bị dập và bỏ chi. Uốn muộn thì cành dễ gãy.
Thông thường chỉ uốn khi lá già. Chỉ có ngoại lệ đối với sam núi, mình nghe nói giống cây này khi tháo dây cành bị trả về rất mạnh cho nên phải uốn luôn từ khi cành & lá còn non.
Có một số trường hợp với sanh và tùng mình chỉ uốn có 1 nét gập, phần khác chỉ “níu” 1 chút sao cho ngọn nó vòng lên trời thôi. Đợi lá già thêm 1 đợt nữa thì lại uốn tiếp những nét gập mạnh. Tức là uốn làm nhiều lần.
Cành rơi thường phải to hơn những cành khác nhiều mới hợp tự nhiên, bởi chúng thường dài, số lá lớn nên cành cũng phải to. Tuy vậy, điều trái khoáy là đã uốn rủ thấp xuống thì cành lại phát chậm do ưu thế ngọn sẽ ức chế sự phát triển của cành rơi. Để khắc phục, bạn hãy nuôi thả đừng cắt tỉa gì cả và uốn những phần thừa (phần mồi cho cành to, sau này sẽ cắt bỏ) vòng lên cao. Ví dụ như hình dưới đây là cách nuôi cành của ông Robert Steven.
